Top Movies to Get Excited For Traveling: #8 Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

The movie countdown continues.  Christian is now in Arizona for the summer and I am about to head to Washington DC for the summer.  It is always hard to keep up the posting while moving everything you own across the country!  But we finally have number 8 done!  Click on the links below for more info on each movie!

12. Wild America

11. Forrest Gump

10. Bourne Trilogy

9. Harry Potter

8. The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the greatest stories of all time.  The movies are fantastic and very few movies can compare to its ability to transport you to another world for 12 hours straight.

We have all had the desire.  We have wanted to be called upon for a quest.  Maybe it isn’t saving all of middle earth from the forces of evil by destroying the one ring while fighting your own desire to posses it and consequently the power that comes with it.  Maybe it is something simpler such as traveling to Europe next summer…  A noble quest in itself! That is the quest we are preparing to embark on as we look towards next summer.

This movie doesn’t only make you desire to take a long quest, but it helps you realize how difficult the journey will be… “One does not simply walk into mordor!”

It may not be a journey filled with a war against evil, but that doesn’t diminish your task!  Taking a trip of any kind will hold its own challenges!  For me and Christian, traveling to almost every country in Europe will require outstanding planning on our part and we will have to be prepared for the toll that traveling for so long will take both mentally and physically!

On top of all of the philosophical mumbo jumbo of comparing the Lord of the Rings to travel, the location in which the Lord of the Rings was filmed is gorgeous!  New Zealand was the only place in the world that could capture the imagination of JRR Tolkein’s middle earth.

A dream of mine would be to do a movie tour and go to all of the on location sets for some of my favorite movies!  You could go to tunisia or death valley and see some of the locations for the star wars movies.  You could go to the bahamas and see many of the places they filmed the pirates of the Caribbean’s movies.  And of course, you can go to New Zealand and see almost everything from the Lord of the Rings.

The even offer tours if you look here:

Maybe i’m just a nerd and love Lord of the Rings…  Maybe this whole post is a stretch, but I think if you really think about it, I believe Lord of the Rings is one of the best travel movies.  What do you think?

  1. Thanks for liking my post on Milan’s duomo. The roof of the cathedral is also the setting for a scene in a fantastic film from the 60’s – Rocco and his Brothers by Visconti and starring Alain Delon. If your trip takes you to Milan, that’s another movie for you.

  2. I’m a huge nerd for Lord of the Rings so I’m glad to see this made the list! Every time I watch this movie it makes me want to pick up my backpack and head out the door. I heard somewhere that from the beginning of the journey in Hobbiton to the end in Mordor would be the equivalent of walking from London England to the Gobi Desert in China. That is an adventure I’d love to take!
